Tiara’s Bridal Boutique
By Rob | November 2, 2007
There is a new Bridal Boutique in Sussex County, Delaware! Several people told me about Tiara’s so I figured I stop in to check it out. Now, even though I am a wedding photographer…I haven’t been in many bridal shops. Tiara’s is pretty fancy, if you ask me. Plenty of room and a nice selection of wedding gowns, prom dresses, shoes and evening wear. Not one of those big crazy dress warehouses with boxes of dresses and shoes laying on the floor for you to pick through. Also, they have tuxedos for the guys!
Tiara’s Bridal is located across the road from Nassau Valley Vineyards.
So, before you head up to NYC for that $10k Vera Wang…stop in and check out Tiara’s Bridal Boutique. Save that extra money for more pictures and a better wedding album!!! Make sure you tell them “Rob the photographer” sent ya!

Greenville Country Club Wedding
By Rob | October 30, 2007
Joanna, Ryan and I had a blast shooting their Valley Gardens engagement pictures! So I knew we would have a great time hanging out on their wedding day. They had a Greenville Country Club wedding and the weather broke about 20 minutes before I got to the girls house! It rained for 3 days straight prior to their wedding day. The night before I used my old Navy Meteorology training and forecasted that the weather would push through during the ceremony. Luckily the winds picked up and kicked the system through 2 hours early!! Actually, it was still raining when I was passing through Dover on my way up to Greenville. When the weather started to clear…I sent Ryan a text saying, “Yes here comes da sun!!!!” Ryan quickly texted me back, “I made a call.” I laughed so hard as I made a lefthand turn on Delaware Ave…imagining him making a few calls to make sure the weather cleared up for his wedding day!
Natural light is my fave!

The wedding dress says, “put me on!”
“Girls just wanna have fun.”
The ground was still soaked from the 3 day soaking…but I needed to get this shot!
“This one is my favorite lily.”
Off they go.
The guys
At least the shoes look good…
Joanna is a teacher and I figured she’d like this picture. Funny thing is I said, I’d like to take another picture with
you standing in front of the books.” She replied, “Reeeeaaaaally???”
“The hand-off!”
This might be the best ceremony shot I have ever taken!
Greenville Country Club.
Whhhooooooooow!
The staff was working hard!
You would think that I was saying something bad….
The club’s decor was great!
Ryan….you are supposed to feed her….not yourself!!
Priceless!
A couple of the guests wanted to take MY picture with my gear….so here is the best one.
I posed for this picture.
The bridesmaids showed off their moves.
As did the best man.
She definitely wanted this bouquet!!!
Thanks guys for letting me hang out with you guys on your wedding day…I had a blast!

Delaware wedding photographer
By Rob | October 26, 2007
I’m now starting to understand how the judges work. This is the 3rd time participating in the Delaware Professional Photographers print competition. The first time I did pretty good, the second time was good, too…..now I had Best in Show and a 2nd place in the candid/wedding category!!
Candid wedding category
Best In Show - “Cloud 9″
This was Heather and Dustin right after their Norfolk Botanical Garden Wedding.
Candid wedding category
2nd Place - “Party On!”

This was Val and Jamey during the best man toast at their Bellevue Hall Wedding.

Wedding photography pricing
By Rob | October 18, 2007
You get what you pay for….
Wedding photography pricing is a very complex subject and so I feel I should explain it further. As a wedding photographer I am a serviced based business. Basically I’m hired to perform a service at a later date that follows the guidelines of an agreement/contract. It’s not like I’m selling handbags on the corner of NYC. If you feel that my product is over priced….you go to the next block to save a couple dollars. Services are a lot harder to compare…as I’m sure you already know if you have been searching other wedding photographers’ websites. This guys offer this….and charges for that……and includes these! There are many aspects that affect wedding photography pricing like experience, location, overhead, quantity of annual weddings, quality of wedding pictures, demand and many other things! For example, a 20 year San Francisco wedding photographer that only shoots 10 wedding a years….may charge 15k+ for a complete package. This photographer will have the time to work with you to make sure all your expectations are met. On the other hand, a shoot and burn photographer who lives in the suburbs might shoot part-time and have 60+ weddings a year at 2k and just hands over the DVD with digital negatives. So it really depends on what type of experience you’d like and what your budget can handle. Besides that there are two main pricing concepts in the wedding photography world.
First is the “Shoot to sell pricing” which has been around for many many years. This type of wedding photographer usually charges a lower price up front and then depends on prints and album sales to make more money after the wedding. Now think about it this way, this type of photographer will show up and shoot with the mind set of making more money. The photographer will be thinking, “that won’t sell…..so I’m not going to waste my time shooting it!” Yes….I’ve heard this many times before by some of those “Shoot to sell” photographers.
Second is the “Stylish/Artistic pricing” which is fairly new. This type of photographer has a specific uniqueness and style to their images. We will charge more to document the wedding day the way we see it unfold. Our way of shooting it not structured by safe/marketable images. There are no boundaries or limitations to what and how we shoot your wedding day! This allows us to shoot for the bride and groom…not big sales. When we shoot we don’t think, “Oh this picture will sell like hotcakes and that will look awesome in their album!” Click click click!
So the main questions you should be asking in your search for a wedding photographer are:
- What’s more important when choosing a wedding photographer; unique style or great price?
- Do I want my photographer to shoot for us or shoot for big print sales?
- Do I want my wedding photographer to JUST show up on my wedding day or do I want the full wedding photography experience?
- Can I get along with this photographer for 8+ hours?
My couples hire me because they want something different. Recently I conducted a survey to help me understand why my past and current couples book me to hang out on their wedding day. The results told me the #1 reason my couples chose me was because of my style of photography, #2 was my personality and #3 was price…and most spent more then their original photography budget!!!
Hopefully this has helped clear up some confusion with your wedding photographer search.

The Duncan Center wedding
By Rob | October 17, 2007
Alane and Brian’s ceremony was at First Baptist Church of Dover. That might have been the easiest church I ever shot in! The light was perfect. We headed over the Richardson Park for some bridal party pictures. Then it was off to the Duncan Center.
Love shooting shoes.
“What’s the holdup?”
“Yup….he’s all mine!”
Bubbles anyone?
The cake was very nice!
Even though low light is a photographer’s worst nightmare. I LOVE IT!
The last dance of the night for the newlyweds!
I love this shot!

Nassau Valley Vineyards Wedding
By Rob | October 10, 2007
Elizabeth and Brandon had a Nassau Valley Wedding in Lewes, Delaware. They were planning their destination wedding from New York City so we met up only a couple times. We were able to meet up for some engagement pictures in Wilmington. After we met up and hung out for a bit at the Zoo…I knew their wedding would be a blast!
Hotel Blue is one of the coolest hotels in Southern Delaware!

Bayberry Flowers did another amazing job! (They did my wedding too.)

Mom gets her hair done.

The girls get ready.

Sis helps with eye makeup.

Liz had comfy shoes for the reception.

Someone loves the camera. After this Liz said, “You should move up to
New York so you can take pictures of us all the time!”

Liz checks her jewelry before she heads to the limo.

Nassau Valley Vineyards had a nice villa feel.

Liz and Brandon put a lot of work into the decor.

Guests sip wine before the ceremony.

With a little help from your….siblings.

The ceremony was nice and small. But the floor was very loud!

Hey we are married!

Brandon’s dad watches the action.

This guy’s hair was awesome!

Tears fell.

Give me time…I don’t necessarily need light. I can create my own!

Gotta love sepia toning.

Best man speech

Blue Moon catered the party and the food was awesome!

The cake was very nice too.

More of of Bayberry Flower’s creations.

1st dance was full of fun.

Others had a good time.

Yum yum

Brandon’s mom chuckles a bit.

Who’s getting married next???
Check my sched before choosing a date, guys! No pressure.

Sing it Brandon.

Chug chug Liz.

Mom and Dad shared some moments.

At 10:57 Liz ran up and asked me, “How much more time do we have with you?” After telling her 3 minutes, they did some quick poses until 11!

Bellevue Hall Wedding
By Rob | October 8, 2007
Val and Jamey contacted me after Kate and Paul’s Hotel du Pont wedding in Wilmington Delaware. Val and I go waaaaayy back to our high school years. She reminded me of the times she used to drive me to Rehoboth Beach from Dewey Delaware to get some crickets for my lizard at the pet store! I didn’t realize she was going to “cash in” 7 years later….when she asked me to shoot her wedding for her! I was honored to document their wedding day for them. Val is a great friend and Jamey is a stud!
The activities started at Bellevue Hall with the girls getting ready. Then we moved over to St. Elizabeth Church (my old grade school) for the ceremony and then headed back to Bellevue Hall for the reception.
This Bellevue Hall wedding was amazing!

The colors and style of the decor was great too!

It was a bit warm in their room.
“PH balanced for a man”

Happy brides are my fave!

Val made some new friends!

Here is one for the parents and grandparents.

Bellevue’s property is amazing.

The girls wait for the guest to be seated.
“Did I miss anything?”
“Timeless”
Cheers!

This cake fit the room.

This angle made it look dramatic.

My brides like photography too!

I love when I have extra time to play with lighting.

Some more non-traditional lighting techniques.

I could have shot with them all night…but the dance floor was calling their names!

Grandma is ready to leave.
