Wilmington Delaware Engagement pictures
By Rob | October 5, 2007
Elizabeth and Brandon came down to Wilmington from New York City to get their marriage license. We met in downtown Wilmington and drove over to the Brandywine Zoo. They are very non-traditional and said they hated the cheesy posed pictures…well I guess they booked the right wedding photographer!
Their wedding is at Nassau Valley Vineyards. These are the images they chose to be displayed at their reception! Their wedding should be very fun!

Cavalier Hotel Wedding
By Rob | October 4, 2007
Heather and Dustin contacted me about their wedding back in February. When I got back from a trip to San Diego I headed down to Virgina Beach. It had been the 1st time being back in VA Beach since my wife and I moved to Delaware. We did a Trash the Dress with an old dress that Heather picked up from Salvation Army before their wedding. Since then Heather, Dustin and I have become pretty good friends….and we had a blast on their wedding day! Their wedding started out with Heather and the girls getting ready at Cavalier Hotel , the ceremony was at Norfolk Botanical gardens and then moving back to Cavalier for the reception.
Norfolk Botanical Gardens is very special to me because I used to go to the gardens 2-3 times a week when living in Va Beach. My Navy sched was crazy…so I would have days off during the week. I’d walk around for hours taking pictures of flowers, butterflies and other types on animals. Very relaxing. This was where I decide to follow my childhood dreams of being a professional photographer!!!
Cavalier Hotel was built in 1927 and is used for weddings and special events.
Gotta get the dress shots!
and shoes…..
and booze…
Where is my limo???
Wonderful white roses.
Groomzilla!!! Jk…Dustin.
“Best Man patch”
“I got the rings!”
Dad gives a hand.
We all know what the tongue in the cheek means…sniff sniff.
“Da girls”
Perfect weather.
Hey gramps.
I love blue skies with puffy clouds.
Sparklers for their big entry to the Cavalier Hotel.
Cavalier Hotel Grand Ball Room.
Heather and Dustin sharing some laughs during the slideshow that Heather’s mom put together.
“THE ROBOT”
Some more dancing.
Hey….who is that guy???
Sorry Heather….I couldn’t resist!
Loved this walkway and light!
Loved the glow of the back light!
Gotta play with the selective focus.
1927?
Thanks Heather and Dustin!

Bear Trap Dunes Wedding
By Rob | October 2, 2007
Erin and Clayton hired me to document their wedding with a reception at Bear Trap Dunes. The day started off with some rainy weather and a lost limo. The lost limo through the whole schedule off for the day! I wished that I had more time to spend with the bridal party and Erin and Clayton…but that is the way it works sometimes.
Erin having her make-up done on her wedding day.
So many choices!

FAQs
By Rob | September 25, 2007
Here is a new Q & A page to highlight many of the questions I’ve received over the years.
Q. You seem to capture a lot of nice candids. Is that because you know the couples you take pictures for?
A. Not all the time. I go out of my way to get to know my couples and their families. This allows me to blend in and become a part of the wedding day! Then guests act natural and I shoot away!
Q. Do you travel to shoot destination wedding photography?
A. Yes yes yes. Traveling is one reason why I fell in love with photography! Plus I love shooting at new locations and wedding venues. Delaware weddings, New Jersey weddings, New York weddings, Maryland weddings, Pennsylvania weddings, Virginia weddings and Riu Ocho Rios Jamaica wedding!
Q. What is your philosophy?
A. When shooting a wedding it’s like telling a story with my pictures. Similar to writing a book with my images. As the “writer” my mission is to introduce characters, highlight important details and invoke emotions. Just like any book each chapter should be a little different and will build on top of each other to create a complete story.
Q. What is your style, in regard to wedding photography?
A. Documentary (93%) - Most of the day is spent capturing candid moments that show natural emotions; real smiles, tears and interactions. These will help you remember your wedding day…the actual way that it happened.
“Wall hangers”(5%) - Amazing photos that will be worthy of redecorating your whole house around! These are usually artist candid pictures.
“Parent pleasers” (2%) - These are the posed pictures with family and friends. I will do my best to make these “grip and grin” pictures faster and more exciting than you’re used to!
Every wedding is a bit different which will vary the percentages…obviously.
Q. What are my payment options?
A. We can break up payments and also wait until after the wedding to purchase albums and prints when your “rolling in the dough!”
Q. What is the next step?
A. If you like my work, like me enough to hang out for 9 hours on the biggest day of your life and I fit in your budget…..we have got to get that contract signed and deposit sent ASAP! There has been many situations where I’ve had couples wait too long….and the date was booked by another couple! Actually I’ve had three couples interested in the same date at the same time. So basically it is 1st come, 1st serve.
Q. Could we hire you to document our entire weekend?
A. Of course we can hang out all weekend…I can shoot your rehearsal, wedding, day after brunch and day after photoshoot! I’ll basically become part of your family for the weekend!
Q. How far out do couples book you?
A. Most book me over a year and some change out….if not longer!
Q. How long does it take to see our wedding pictures?
A. I usually post 15+ photos highlighting your wedding to my blog within a couple days. Then an online wedding movie about one month later. Then all the edited wedding pictures will be ready to view within two months of your wedding.
Q. Do we have to meet face to face before the wedding day?
A. No. This is not completely necessary. Sometimes it is not possible to meet each other before your wedding day.
Q. Do I take every wedding request that comes to my door?
A. No. It is very important that I “click” with my couples. We will be hanging out for 9 hours on the biggest day of your lives! Most of my couples are a lot like me and we usually become good friends throughout the whole experience. Also it is very important for me to make sure my couples are 120% comfortable and confident in their decision to have me be their wedding photographer!
Q. Are you the primary wedding photographer?
A. Yes. You will be dealing with me 99% of the time. Before your wedding, during your wedding and after your wedding.
Q. So Rob….after we sign the contract I’ll see you on the wedding day right?
A. Heck NO! We will talk and/or meet up at least 3 times to make sure “all is good in da hood!” This ensures that we are all on the same page!
Q. Can I contact you before I have a wedding date or a rock?
A. Yes! Some of my couples contact me before they even have their dates hammered down. This will help ensure that you get the photographer of your dreams! lol
Q. Why wedding photography Rob?
A. I’ve been a photographer since I was “knee high to a grass hopper.” Photography stemmed from my love for the great outdoors. At first, my pictures helped document my travels and experiences. Then sharing my pictures with others pushed me to take my photography to new levels. After attending my family/friend’s weddings, I began thinking “I could do a better job than these photographers.” People would be having fun and laughing…then the photographer would come up and say, “Can you guys get together for a picture!” First off, this interrupts the fun and secondly people don’t act natural when they are aware of the camera. Weddings are supposed to be a fun, exciting and the happiest day of your life…so the pictures should show that.
I am a full time wedding photographer and loving it! It is my “job” to hang out with couples on the biggest day of their lives! Plus the more I think about it, the more I realize it was meant to be. Throughout my years…I was a landscaper, jeweler, meteorologist and now a wedding photographer. Now wrap that up with being a newly married man…I can recommend flowers; advise you on rings; give you a wedding day weather forecast; photograph your wedding and tell you some good wedding day stories!
Q. As a full-time wedding photographer, what is your life like?
A. Well my job is to hang out with couples on the biggest day of their lives…and shoot pictures! Is it all fun and games? I do love what I do, but most of my Fridays and Saturday are very busy. I travel a lot and spend many hours in front of my computers. I’m not complaining…I’m explaining. I chose this lifestyle…and it has its pros and cons. My free time is mostly during the weekdays….except for Sunday beach volleyball! When I do have some free time you can find me using my Navy college money to complete my degree in Entrepreneurship, traveling, surfing, playing ping pong, Wii and hanging out with my wife!
More to come…

Valley Gardens Delaware engagement pictures
By Rob | September 24, 2007
Joanna and Ryan came to me by way of my Aunt’s cousin and a conversation about wedding photographers. Joanna’s friend had recommended that she check out “this guy’s” website…Rob Nicholson of Humbled Eyes Photography. That is the way it works sometimes. Two teachers chit chatting in the teacher’s lounge. Come to find out I use to hang out with Ryan back in my college years before I left for the Navy.
Well now I will be shooting their Greenville Country Club wedding in October!
Here are some pics from their e-session at Valley Gardens in Wilmington.

Nassau Valley Vineyard wedding
By Rob | September 17, 2007
Becky and Ernie got married at Grace Church in downtown Milton, Delaware. With the reception following at Nassau Valley Vineyard.
Couldn’t have asked for a better day of weather!
The girls got ready in a classroom with very interesting art work on the walls.

Mom helps dad fix his tie.
The guest wait for the bride.

Guests threw bird seed!!

Didn’t look fun to me!

Becky and Ernie had the place cards in little corks…pretty cool.
I see you….

We had a good amount of time to shoot some bridal party pics and B&G pics.

The first dance…as husband and wife.

OK…this picture completely breaks many photography rules. But I wanted to keep their faces in the shadows and have the light hit Becky’s dress.
Plus I spent 6 loooooooonnnnngggg years in the Navy….I hate following rules!

Someone turned on a spot light which created a new light source.
The old man was soooooo cool!

This kid seems bored and a little tired.
Nassau Valley Vineyards is beautiful at night.

Dewey Beach Wedding
By Rob | September 11, 2007
Lauren and Dan got married at Northbeach in Dewey beach on Friday. We could not have asked for better weather! Warm with a light breeze. I do wish the sun set a bit further north….but that might be asking too much. The wedding went very smoothly and Make My Day Event Planning was a huge part of that! They did a great job with my wedding and this was the first time working with them…on the “other side!”
The morning started with make-up and hair at Bad Hair Day in Rehoboth Beach, De.

Mimosas….the breakfast of champions.
Covergirl?
Thicken those lashes up a bit.
Slip those heals on.
I hung out with the girls…shared some laughs.

I had my eye on this trailer in the middle of this field for some time now. Lauren’s mom said, “this looks like a CD cover…she also said, ” Rob…I trust you.” I was a bit nervous about her approval rating on the location of the girls portraits!

Bayside Limos laid the red carpet out to for the big entrance.

Lauren waits….
It’s go time!
Many generations show up for the party.

Not many dry eyes during the ceremony.

“Sun is shining, the weather is sweet
Make you want to move your dancing feet
To the rescue, here I am
Want you to know ya, where I stand”
~Bob Marley
First dance.
As a photographer I need to chase the light. This lamp provided me something to work with.

Some smiles…some tears….and some of this!
She missed his mouth!
Save it for later!
And then the dancing began!
And continued…

Sparklers for the big exit.

Lauren and Dan rode off in a Dewey Beach rickshaw.

Good times.

Lewes Delaware engagement pictures
By Rob | August 28, 2007
I met Erin at the Baywood Greens’s Bridal show back in April. The other day Erin and Clayton came down to the beach to get their marriage license, cake and wrap up many other odds and ends. As most out of town couples do when they are planning their wedding from 100s of miles away! We met up to finalize some details about there Bethany Beach Wedding and hang out and shoots some pics. I was amazed by Clayton’s phenomenal vision…he was able to see a snake in the water over a 1/2 a mile away!!!
